Circa 1900 Antique Gold-Filled rimless glasses w/Case
This item is a vintage eyeglass case and bi-focal glasses from Dr. E. M. Jacquet, an optometrist who practiced in Kankakee, Illinois. Optometry became a legally recognized profession in Illinois in 1903, following a lawsuit that determined the selling of spectacles was not part of the practice of medicine or surgery, meaning this case could be from as early as the turn of the 20th century.
The "riding bow" or cable temples that wrap around the ear were a popular design feature from the late 1800s through the mid-20th century, specifically
engineered to keep glasses secure during physical activity, like the military used for their P3 safety glasses during WWII. The octagonal, rimless style was particularly fashionable in the 1920s and 1930s as people moved toward more subtle, delicate frames.
